Working as a professional sculptor from his studio workshop in Cambridgeshire UK, Alex designs and makes kinetic sculptures using interesting timbers as the main media for his work. His sculptures are brought to life using spring-powered mechanisms that he has developed over time.

As a mainly self-taught artisan, Alex enjoys creating and working at the intersection between art, craft and engineering and has always been fascinated by clockwork devices, having, at the tender age of four, taken apart the family clock “just to see how it worked”– oops! Having qualified initially as an engineer specialising in aircraft avionics and then later in medical instrumentation.

Taking some time out to study Creativity and Innovation, Alex deployed his keen eye for detail and good design to overseeing various aspects of new product development for high-end consumer products – from the early creative phases of innovation, industrial design and styling through to launch and production; and in parallel honed his own craftsmanship skills over recent years by building prototype models together with designing and making bespoke pieces of hardwood furniture for the home and garden prior to becoming a sculptor.
