Alan retired from being a director of his own company in 2015 and lives just off Dartmoor in Devon. Having played mechanical engineering in nuclear submarines and then, taking those skills into the North Sea Oil game, Alan has always had an interest in reusing the obsolete; remaking the broken and old into something of interest, often tinged with an element of humour. One such project was to successfully make an electric car for his two daughters to drive for less than £100 when they were children!

His love of classic cars (owns a Triumph 1964 TR4a and a 1958 Triumph TR3a) keeps him busy, between creating electromechanical sculptures. His sculptures, like old cars, depend on personal skills and experience. They are not controlled by a silicone chip and allow you to look at the mechanisms to see the movement, how they work and hopefully, bring a smile to the on-looker’s face
