Alex was awarded a distinction in MA Contemporary Art and Music at Oxford Brookes University and is now continuing with an MPhil/PhD to extend his exploration of rhythmic effects. He is also a full-time software engineer at NaturalMotion Ltd, Oxford, where animation software is developed for the film and games industry.
His practice includes sculptural, sonic, performance and multimedia work, but LEGO is his material of choice for playfully sketching ideas and developing pieces. The perceptual effects experienced in rhythm, polyrhythm and phasing is the driving fascination in his work, and this comes from a deeper desire to understand emergent properties of complex dynamic systems. He uses playful ways to capture an audience, slow their attention, and allow them to explore this complexity in their own way.
